From: Chris Renkel,
        MEC Communications Committee Chairman
Wednesday, October 20, with a special update:

Today, ALPA concluded the 40th annual Board of Directors meeting in
Hollywood, Florida.  Your elected representatives, along with those of
all other ALPA represented airlines, participated in the meeting, the
highlights of which may be found on the www.alpa.org
ALPA President Captain Duane Woerth's speech is especially
        appropriate.

Since last Wednesday, and continuing concurrently with the BOD meeting
this week, the Delta MEC met in special session.  Your representatives
received updates from ALPA's Economic and Financial Analysis team, legal
counsel including bankruptcy experts, MEC Administration, and
Negotiating Committee. Direction was given to the Negotiating Committee
based on all the information available.

The Negotiating Committee will continue to meet with Delta management
through this weekend in an effort to reach an agreement that allows
Delta pilots to participate in a comprehensive restructuring of our
airline.  Your union leadership fully recognizes Delta's precarious
financial situation. Much work has been done to date, but many issues
remain unresolved.  Because of the time constraints presented by Delta's
worsening financial condition, the MEC will reconvene on Monday, October
25, in Herndon, Virginia, to be briefed on any progress made over the weekend.

There will be no further announcement regarding negotiations until the
process concludes, although talks will continue through the weekend.
