American Airlines has plans to simplify its business, the company's chief executive told investors during a conference. The airline wants to keep its pilots and flight attendants on the same flight for an entire day, instead of having them connect to different flights. The carrier also plans to consolidate maintenance operations for the different types of planes it flies. In addition, chief executive Gerard Arpey reminded investors of plans to lay off some mechanics and pilots.
