The recent letter regarding the actions and motives of the DALRC, sent to the Pioneers membership is troubling at best. It's important that we set the record straight.
First, it was never our intention to use the Pioneers' list for our recent mailing. It does appear that approximately 50 names from that list (of 5200+) found their way into ours. We believe this happened nearly a year ago when we hired some outside help to computerize our list. While we have some committee members who are current or former members of the Pioneers, we have made every attempt to honor the Pioneers' stipulations for use of their membership list.
Second, we have purposely waited to solicit legal funding for the very reasons stated in the Pioneers' letter. We did not want to unduly alarm anyone. For those who read the recent strategy announcement from Delta, you will understand that our timing was not premature and that time is of the essence.
The DALRC's agenda does not differ greatly from that of the Pioneers. We all want to support Delta in its efforts to avoid bankruptcy and to ensure that Delta retiree participants continue to prosper. Our agenda just has a broader scope. We have opened our membership to spouses and survivors, as well as active employees and their families. Our purpose also encompasses the protection of retirement benefits including pension, medical and dental benefits, and travel privileges.
Regardless of one's financial situation, sixty dollars is a very modest sum to secure representation in the event of a bankruptcy filing. The DALRC By-Laws cover both our purpose and our use of funds. No member of this committee receives compensation and in many cases have borne out-of-pocket expenses from their personal funds.
We do not presume that we can make a decision for you about joining DALRC, but we do want to ensure you are armed with factual information so that you can make an informed decision.
